Q+A
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING A FASHION DESIGNER?

Our lives can sometimes be so boring and monotonous.  I love the feeling I get when I help someone see life, or even themselves, from a different angle, and fashion allows me to have that feeling on a daily basis.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

Launching and running my own boutique in Iran wasn't easy, and it was challenging in many ways to introduce original and forward-looking fashion to the streets of Tehran.  Now my challenge is to introduce not only my own designs, but those of other talented Iranian designers to the rest of the world.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?

Nature!  My every day surroundings!  I recently designed a coat sleeve accent that was inspired by the flap of a beautiful handbag I saw a woman carrying in Iran.  I also love taking inspiration from animals; I have been inspired by zebras, giraffes, even dogs!

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A DESIGNER?

My first degree was in Mechanical Engineering, but I always loved designing coats for myself, which I would ask a professional tailor to make for me.  After about 9 months of working as an engineer, I realized I was spending more time with my tailor making my own unique clothes than I was working as an engineer!  At about that time I discovered where my passion lay, began taking fashion courses, and began working as a designer.  I loved (and still love) the act of designing so much that it has never really felt like work.
