Q+A
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING A FASHION DESIGNER?

What I love most about being a fashion designer is the creativity – it is the very essence of who I am. I need to create and if I don't create fashion then I am creating furniture or re-decorating or changing, building, designing something. But beyond myself, I love the collaboration.

I love to see how a design in my head translates on paper, then in a pattern. It is made a reality by the seamstress who brings her (his) creative talents, then at a photoshoot the model, the makeup artist and the photographer add their creative and interpretive skills and finally I love to see someone wear the design and bring it to life in their unique way. A design has a life that is touched by everyone along the way, the designer is just a small part of that.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOU BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

My greatest challenge is to adapt to the business demands of being a designer. Like most creatives we shy away from the business of sales and marketing, but without that you are a hobbyist not a business owner. It is a challenge, but I love challenges so...one day at a time.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?

I design clothes for women of purpose. I am truly inspired by the strength and beauty of the women I am fortunate to meet, interact with and design for. Intelligence, passion and hard-work are very beautiful.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A DESIGNER?

I started sewing when I was six, my mother was an interior designer and we had a lot of home-decor fabrics and sewing machines at my disposal with no supervision. My first projects were wild and free, I fell in love with creating and never looked back.
