MarLa Studio jewelry was founded by MarLa Wallerstein, in Evanston, IL. Her first collection in 2008 was a series of etched Hebrew pendants featuring poetic excerpts of prayers on the front, English translations on the back. Cast in silver and bronze, they appear edgy and modern with a mysterious ancient twist. Compelling phrases such as "With all your heart - soul - might", transcend religion, appealing to a universal spirituality. These initial amulets were atypical for "spiritual" jewelry combining a punk rock aesthetic with tradition, meaning and finely crafted sophistication. They hit a fashion nerve, caught on quick and the collections grew from there.

“I make the jewelry I desire. Inspiration can come from text, a pounding bass line, ancient history, Roman ruins, photos of the young Mick and Keith... Whatever the source, it's something I have a strong, visceral reaction to... It's got to embody both a female and male vibe as we all possess qualities of each gender. For me that's what makes compelling, honest, powerfully intriguing art...

"I create jewelry to withstand active daily wear - to be an essential part of your look, your daily gear, your personal armor. I don’t design as casual or formal, these pieces should feel right on your skin and look as inevitable with silk as they do with black leather. Elegant yet intrinsically rugged, effortless cool is the goal."

Although a one woman operation, the brand has considerable reach. Loved and worn by models (off and on duty), rock stars and soulful individuals world wide, the brand enjoys a cult-like following. Sold at marlastudio.com, select online boutiques, and brick and mortar stores throughout North America, MarLa studio jewelry is made entirely in the USA.
