Liz Nehdi Studio brings a fresh voice to women's apparel and accessories, providing current and future collectors with a way of bringing art with them on holiday, and a means of finding the joy and inspiration of travel no matter where they are.

Liz Nehdi's 2016 resort wear collection is imbued with the spirit of eternal summers and is inspired by Nehdi's favourite coastal destinations around the world, from the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard to the rocky coast of South Africa, to the sands and sails of Antigua and the brilliant sun of the Cote d'Azur.

The effortless drape of silk chiffon acts as a canvas for the saturated hues of tropical flora, which adorn the feather-light kimonos, beach scarves and delicate foulards. The collection makes a nod to iconic women of the 20th century, from Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Grace Jones, to Frida Kahlo and Brigitte Bardot, whose timeless style serves as a vision for the pieces designed to transition seamlessly from the beach to a chic urban hotspot, and beyond.

The Liz Nehdi brand was launched in 2015 by Liz & Karim Morgan Nehdi and aims to introduce a way of life that celebrates fun, creative expression, optimism, and the beautiful complexities of the global village in which we all live.

Q+A
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A DESIGNER?

Having trained as a painter and printmaker, I really wanted to find a platform for my work that was more accessible than fine art.  I am extremely drawn to the idea of making wearable art, with each object having an evolving story that takes on a piece of its owner's life. I wanted to create art that could be lived in, and fashion was the perfect vehicle for this - thus Liz Nehdi Studio was born.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING A FASHION DESIGNER?

I could not be happier with the fact that I am following my dream in setting up my own company and creating products that embody my love of design, art, travel, and of course color and pattern. Sharing my work with the world is making me extremely happy right now!

Also, one of the reasons I founded Liz Nehdi Studio was that I wanted to form a working environment that is supportive and nurturing to all those who work within it, especially aspiring female entrepreneurs, who I believe are an underserved group.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

Perhaps the biggest challenge is suddenly having a multitude of job titles! Setting up your own business throws you into the role of CEO, financial officer, HR coordinator, logistics manager, salesperson etc. in addition to the part I love the most, which is designing. Juggling all of these roles is exciting, as I know I'm learning and growing by the day, but I'm not going to lie - it can also be a bit daunting. And all this work takes up a lot of time, so having to bow out of social engagements has also been a big challenge for me as I'm a very social creature!

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?

I'm a bit of a human sponge; I'm constantly observing, absorbing and photographing the people, places and things around me. The art world, interior design, plants and flowers and travel are particularly rich sources of inspiration for me. My taste is very eclectic and wide-ranging. I use Pinterest as a massive online mood board to catalogue some of these inspirations.
