WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BLOG

I started blogging wayyyy back when 2008, when blogging first became a “thing”. I was in college working towards my degree in Fashion Merchandising & wanted an outlet to share all of my experiences and inspirations, so starting a blog just kinda made sense at that point in my life. At first, it was strictly a hobby as I needed to focus on my education, but once I graduated it took center stage of my life & has now grown into what it is today!

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BLOG NAME?

Love this question, cause honestly, I don’t think anyone knows!

You know how they call people who get all flirty when drinking a “lush”? Yea, well that’s basically how I get with fashion. Whenever I get a new pair of shoes I love or a bag I’ve been eyeing for a while, I literally get a little buzz off of the buy (aka shoppers high!).

WHAT MAKES YOUR BLOG STAND OUT?

I think the combination of fashion + DIY make my blog stand out. Typically you either find fashion bloggers or DIY bloggers, but rarely both!

DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL/SIGNATURE STYLE?

Minimalistic, comfortable, & a little bit 90’s inspired.

WHO IS YOUR #1 FASHION ICON?

Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen combined, always (there basically one person, right?). I know that’s so cliche of me, but I really don’t care, they are amazing in every way.

FAVORITE LOCAL DESIGNERS?

Honestly, when it comes to clothes there aren’t a lot of local designers I know much about here in San Diego. Jewelry though, I am all about JNB Style. The midi rings are my favorite :).

FAVORITE WEBSITES?

Nylon | Refinery 29 | StyleList | IFB | WWD

FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET NOW?

My Alexander Wang Prisma lunchbag purse.

It was seriously sold out everywhere and impossible to find, so I was pretty ecstatic when stumbled upon what I think was the last one on the entire internet!

FAVORITE BOOK, MOVIE + BAND?

Favorite book: Gone Girl (& all books by Gillian Flynn for that matter!)

Favorite movie: Currently: Boyhood | Of All Time: Factory Girl

Favorite band: Currently: HAIM | Of All Time: Fleetwood Mac

IF YOU WERE TO HAVE LUNCH WITH ANNA WINTOUR AND CARINE ROITFELD WHAT WOULD YOU WEAR?

Wow! That’s a hard question. I would probably wear my leather skinny pants, a crisp white v-neck with this pinstriped blazer I just got, & pointy toed ankle boots (preferably the ACNE Loma boots). Keep it simple, always.

SONG YOU HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THE MOST/ON REPEAT?

Divisionary (do the right thing) by Ages and Ages & Redneck Woman by Gretchen Wilson (don’t know why, but this song gets me pumped!).

FAVORITE E-COMMERCE SITES?

Missguided | Topshop | ASOS | Pixie Market

ANY OTHER BLOGS YOU LOVE?

The Skinny Confidential, Modern Legacy, & Sunday’s Pearl are my daily go-to’s.

BIGGEST FASHION MISTAKE YOU EVER MADE?

Following a trend that I didn’t even like in the first place! Obviously you’ve got to take chances, but don’t just follow trends because other people are. If you don’t like it, stick to your gut!

3 FASHION TIPS?

1. Stay true to yourself/your style
2. Splurge on good jeans (it really makes all the difference)
3. Don’t take it too seriously! Fashion is fun, so get weird with it.

FAVORITE SNACK/ PICK ME UP?

Ginger shots! I started drinking ginger shots in Copenhagen this past year & ever since I’ve been hooked. They give me a ton of energy, strengthens the immune system, aids in digestion, boost metabolism, & detoxifies. You can order them up at your local juice spot or you can make them yourself. Find my personal recipe here.

WHAT GOT YOU INTO FASHION BLOGGING?

I first set up my blog in 2010. I guess it was my enthusiasm for fashion, faith in the power of originality, and passion for emerging designers. I used to be a fashion marketer and visual merchandiser for a few brands such as Ralph Lauren and TSE New York. I have a feeling that bloggers from all over the world are doing more or less the same thing. Being conscious of my Chinese heritage, I tend to make my blog unique and genuine by specializing myself in oriental-inspired fashion with eastern motifs cross-fertilizing western styles which brings an exotic feel to it. You will find my blog exceptionally different from the majority of bloggers’ in terms of style, themes and choice of topics.

WHAT IS THE MAIN PURPOSE OF YOUR BLOG?

I’ve set myself the mission of exploring the emerging fashion markets in the East and bringing any potential Asian designers, especially Hong Kong designers to the world’s attention since I started blogging 4 years ago. Considering that their lack of financial resources is always a major obstacle for many prodigious young Asian/Hong Kong designers to moving their career goals one step forward, I feel an urge to spread the word about the best up-and-coming designers from Hong-Kong,China,Japan, Korea, etc. and make the name of our future design stars known, and their works seen as their talents deserve to be valued. That paved the way for the launch of my September’s debut New York Asian Fashion Week Extravaganza – fashion show(https://www.facebook.com/newyorkasianfashionweekextravaganza) initiated and organized in the name of my blog. In addition, my blog aims at providing a platform for fashionistas to comment on their favorite oriental/ethnic/folklore designs and express their views on fashion of an oriental theme. Followers are encouraged to leave words about what they think “orientalism” may possibly mean, and what necessary elements should be there to make it oriental fashion.

WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING PART OF HAVING YOUR BLOG?

The most exciting part lies in heaps of opportunities to travel to different places and meet up with some most brilliant creative talents from all over the world that have come to me, which have broadened my scope of horizons in fashion, art and culture. Also, the satisfaction and happiness of being the first one to discover and share hidden fashion treasures are beyond words.

WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING?

To maintain authenticity and genuinity of the blog without turning it into another advertising platform for brands.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA?

By traveling, my annual overseas fashion trip – FashionCamp Milano in 2011, International Fashion Days in Kiev, Ukraine in 2012, a visit to and an interview with Hollywood’s celebrated up-and-coming Swiss couture designer Stephanie Burkhalter in her studio in Milan last year, and the latest New York Asian Fashion Week Extravaganza has inspired me to consistently come up with some exclusive and one-of-a-kind subject matter for my blog. My next stop in 2015 is Paris Fashion Week.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT HONG KONG FASHION?

Dynamism, creativity, designers’ unreserved devotion, dareness, and what’s more, a particular role that played by the impact of east-meets-west culture as a result of postcolonialism on one’s design.

WHO IS YOUR READER?

My readers are those who know exactly what style suits themselves best and will never follow trends too much. Trends fade but style stays.
