NAME: Adrianna Kinal
WEBSITE/BLOG: AA Kinal – http://aakinal.com
CITY + COUNTRY: Melbourne, Australia

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BLOG?

For the past 10 years I’ve worked as an Art Director in the fashion industry and I wanted to start my own site. I started the blog AAKinal.com as a way to communicate my point of view on fashion , art and trends.

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BLOG NAME?

It’s an abbreviation of my name Adrianna Aleksandra Kinal.

WHAT MAKES YOUR BLOG STAND OUT?

It stands out with my fashion art. Through my eccentric, stylish and colorful images I convey fashion trends and highlight what I find interesting in fashion at the moment.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL/SIGNATURE STYLE?

My personal style is structured and understated classic. I love European designers and good quality pieces.

WHO IS YOUR #1 FASHION ICON?

That’s a tough one. It’s between Mira Duma’s fashion-forward style or Carine Roitfeld’s classic but edgy French chic look.

FAVORITE LOCAL DESIGNERS?

Elisabeth Weinstock is one of my favorite local designers because she creates the most stunning bags and décor items from colorful snake and animal skins. Also Denisse Shott and Erica Hernandez from Language- they have a beautiful way of combining gorgeous prints, laces and garment dye to create very special-looking feminine pieces.

FAVORITE WEBSITES?

I spend a lot of time on Style.com looking at designer collections and trends. Also Businessoffashion.com for solid fashion business news.

FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET NOW?

3.1 Phillip Lim’s Mini Pashli bag.
Screen Shot 2015-03-11 at 11.28.44 AM

FAVORITE BOOK, MOVIE + BAND?

With so many great books, movies and bands it’s hard to narrow it down to one. I recently watched the movie Whiplash – wow, it had a big impact on me. I love the main characters’ strong passion and desire to be the greatest at his talent.

IF YOU WERE TO HAVE LUNCH WITH ANNA WINTOUR AND CARINE ROITFELD WHAT WOULD YOU WEAR?

Lol, good question. I would wear whatever I felt like that day, probably something classic with a vintage bag or accessory.

SONG YOU HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THE MOST/ON REPEAT?

The war on drugs – Ocean between the waves.

ANY OTHER BLOGS YOU LOVE?

I’ve always been blown away by Ji Kim’s creativity from Luxirare.com.

BIGGEST FASHION MISTAKE YOU EVER MADE?

I’m not sure if I’ve made one, lol.

3 FASHION TIPS?

-Dress true to who you really are and for the environment you’re in.

-Have a specific uniform comprised of classic go-to pieces.

-Always dress how you want to be perceived. In the words of Rachel Zoe – ‘Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak’.

FAVORITE SNACK/ PICK ME UP?

Coffee with lots of milk and a chocolate croissant is always a good idea.

NAME: Rebecca Laurey
WEBSITE/BLOG: Raspberry & Rouge – http://raspberry-rouge.com
CITY + COUNTRY: Amsterdam, The Netherlands

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BLOG?

I started out not knowing anything, just because my friend introduced me to blogging and I thought it was a nice way to express myself and my big passion for fashion. I never knew about all the possibilities it could bring me, let alone it becoming my fulltime job.

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BLOG NAME?

I wish I could tell you an incredibly interesting story about my blog name, but I can’t. It’s simply the result of a brainstorm session, in which I only knew that I wanted an alliteration starting with a R (both my and my boyfriend’s name start with the same letter). Also, I didn’t want it to start with fashion or style, since I felt like everyone was doing that already.

WHAT MAKES YOUR BLOG STAND OUT?

It’s strange to say this about myself, but I think for me the quality is really important. Photography is the focus on my blog, and I’d like to think this might make me stand out. Next to that I think being yourself is really important, because if you’re you you’re unique.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL/SIGNATURE STYLE?

I think it’s a mix between Scandinavian minimalism and California cool. I LOVE the 70s and 90s when it comes to fashion, so I’m definitely throwing some of that in the mix these days.

WHO IS YOUR #1 FASHION ICON?

Jane Birkin. She’s so effortless!

FAVORITE LOCAL DESIGNERS?

I really love what Claes Iversen is doing. He’s actually Danish, but lives in Amsterdam. It’s beautifully made and creatively designed.

FAVORITE WEBSITES?

I have a few websites I like to check on a daily basis, which include blogs of some of my friends like Zanita’s (http://zanita.com.au). Also: Who What Wear, Daily Mail, Arrows (men’s blog, but I love it).

FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET NOW?

Currently, I’m obsessed with my Chloe bag. It’s such a classic and the beige colors are so this season too!

8BUr-ikJnwjiyhWd2YRmvcdkjIFHTZKHzKEniMb-F8A,ugsFiPLiwpCvGOHBrxHDArnlzrneqotn1A1FwiIL4kg

FAVORITE BOOK, MOVIE + BAND?

I don’t read as much as I want anymore, unfortunately, simply because I don’t really make the time. I just read Gone Girl which I loved, and preferred over the movie. Notting Hill with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant is still my all time favorite movie. I don’t really listen to bands, I’m more into house music. My boyfriend is a professional DJ and obviously my fave too 🙂

IF YOU WERE TO HAVE LUNCH WITH ANNA WINTOUR AND CARINE ROITFELD WHAT WOULD YOU WEAR? I would definitely wear something that’s really me: flared jeans, oversized sweater or leather jacket.

SONG YOU HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THE MOST/ON REPEAT?

I’ve been obsessed with the Moonlanding mix of Moonwalk away by Goldfish for 2 months now. I’ve heard it for the first time when I was in South Africa in December, and I can’t stop listening to it. So much feeling in that song!

ANY OTHER BLOGS YOU LOVE?

Like I said above, my very good friend Zanita is one of my fave girls to follow. I love Aussie blogs in general, so effortless.

BIGGEST FASHION MISTAKE YOU EVER MADE?

I don’t think you can really make mistakes when it comes to fashion, but you can definitely make a wrong decision when it’s not based on your personal preference. If you buy clothing just because it’s in fashion, and not because you actually really like it. Everyone prob made that mistake once, for me that probably includes the Birkenstocks. I really liked them on others, but for me it just doesn’t work. I have a pretty awesome pair in my closet that I think I only wore twice.

3 FASHION TIPS?

Wear what you like and like what you wear. Don’t over-do it, less is definitely more for me! And last but not least: always pick personal style over what’s in fashion.

FAVORITE SNACK/ PICK ME UP?

My guilty pleasure: Coca Cola (regular).

Fashion Blogger to Follow- Melinda Fleming FROM Los Angeles

NAME: Melinda Fleming
WEBSITE/BLOG: Curated Cool – http://curatedcool.com/
CITY + COUNTRY: Los Angeles, USA

We could not have been more excited to get to know Melinda Fleming of Curated Cool. She is one stylish and fashion forward lady! Not to mention she lives and travels all over the world. Total global fashion girl. We think you will love her taste, genuineness and energy as much as we do.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BLOG?

I wanted to do a business online, like a creative outlet not even knowing it would be a blog. Then one day I had an “ah-ha” moment. People had always commented on my style and taste and would always ask me ” Where did you get that?” So I started finding unique accessories and decor pieces. Then in December 2013 I started doing fashion outfit ideas, because I posted a picture of me wearing something on social media and got such a response – That became a game changer when I did that.

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BLOG NAME?

Ha! I tried to be so brainiac and serious about the name in the beginning, then I just thought about what was my message? A curated collection of really cool stuff. So I put two words together and there we go!

WHAT MAKES YOUR BLOG STAND OUT?

People have commented how clean and minimal it is. And that’s always been the aesthetic I’m going for. So hopefully I’m succeeding at that goal. I know who I am and I focus on a style thats about a way of life, not just a look for the day.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL/SIGNATURE STYLE?

Clean lines, minimal with edge, and high-end vintage. No two days are the same, so I dress very much in the moment and how I feel. I never worry about trends. If anything I run the other way. I find it more interesting when somebody can say “Where did you get that” without recognizing who the designer is.

WHO IS YOUR #1 FASHION ICON?

I’m gonna go with Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen. Since they are a duo I’m counting them as one. They seem to just get it.

FAVORITE LOCAL DESIGNERS?

-The Row
-Rodarte
-Band Of Outsiders

FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET NOW?

An vintage Italian weekender bag. It’s got the mix of perfect color and patina and I get so many comments on it.

FAVORITE BOOK, MOVIE + BAND?

Book – The Little Prince

Movie – “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” because all the outfits were designed by Givenchy and were simply spectacular.

Band – The Black Keys

IF YOU WERE TO HAVE LUNCH WITH ANNA WINTOUR AND CARINE ROITFELD WHAT WOULD YOU WEAR?

Yes please!! I’d wear my favorite beaded vintage jacket, burgundy leather skinny pants, stiletto booties, and a massive clutch bag. I’m a sucker for a clutch. I like tension in an outfit as I find the opposites attract and help bring a look together.

SONG YOU HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THE MOST/ON REPEAT?

Daft Punk’s “Digital Love” – I rock out every single time.

BIGGEST FASHION MISTAKE YOU EVER MADE?

Wearing stilettos on a grassy field. Your heels will sink into the grass guaranteed!

3 FASHION TIPS?

1. Wear what works for your body shape.
2. Less is always more.
3. Confidence is sexier than any outfit. Remember that you wear the clothes, don’t let the clothes wear you.

BLOGS TO FOLLOW- RP INTERVIEWS Vicki Victoire (pseudonym: Gwen Vikkey Miao) from Hong Kong

Photo taken at New York Asian Fashion Week Extravaganza produced by Vicki Victoire (Gwen Vikkey Miao) of La Mode by GV Miao – an Oriental Perspective – http://la-mode-by.gvmiao.com/

WHAT GOT YOU INTO FASHION BLOGGING?

I first set up my blog in 2010. I guess it was my enthusiasm for fashion, faith in the power of originality, and passion for emerging designers. I used to be a fashion marketer and visual merchandiser for a few brands such as Ralph Lauren and TSE New York. I have a feeling that bloggers from all over the world are doing more or less the same thing. Being conscious of my Chinese heritage, I tend to make my blog unique and genuine by specializing myself in oriental-inspired fashion with eastern motifs cross-fertilizing western styles which brings an exotic feel to it. You will find my blog exceptionally different from the majority of bloggers’ in terms of style, themes and choice of topics.

WHAT IS THE MAIN PURPOSE OF YOUR BLOG?

I’ve set myself the mission of exploring the emerging fashion markets in the East and bringing any potential Asian designers, especially Hong Kong designers to the world’s attention since I started blogging 4 years ago. Considering that their lack of financial resources is always a major obstacle for many prodigious young Asian/Hong Kong designers to moving their career goals one step forward, I feel an urge to spread the word about the best up-and-coming designers from Hong-Kong,China,Japan, Korea, etc. and make the name of our future design stars known, and their works seen as their talents deserve to be valued. That paved the way for the launch of my September’s debut New York Asian Fashion Week Extravaganza – fashion show(https://www.facebook.com/newyorkasianfashionweekextravaganza) initiated and organized in the name of my blog. In addition, my blog aims at providing a platform for fashionistas to comment on their favorite oriental/ethnic/folklore designs and express their views on fashion of an oriental theme. Followers are encouraged to leave words about what they think “orientalism” may possibly mean, and what necessary elements should be there to make it oriental fashion.

WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING PART OF HAVING YOUR BLOG?

The most exciting part lies in heaps of opportunities to travel to different places and meet up with some most brilliant creative talents from all over the world that have come to me, which have broadened my scope of horizons in fashion, art and culture. Also, the satisfaction and happiness of being the first one to discover and share hidden fashion treasures are beyond words.

WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING?

To maintain authenticity and genuinity of the blog without turning it into another advertising platform for brands.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA?

By traveling, my annual overseas fashion trip – FashionCamp Milano in 2011, International Fashion Days in Kiev, Ukraine in 2012, a visit to and an interview with Hollywood’s celebrated up-and-coming Swiss couture designer Stephanie Burkhalter in her studio in Milan last year, and the latest New York Asian Fashion Week Extravaganza has inspired me to consistently come up with some exclusive and one-of-a-kind subject matter for my blog. My next stop in 2015 is Paris Fashion Week.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT HONG KONG FASHION?

Dynamism, creativity, designers’ unreserved devotion, dareness, and what’s more, a particular role that played by the impact of east-meets-west culture as a result of postcolonialism on one’s design.

WHO IS YOUR READER?

My readers are those who know exactly what style suits themselves best and will never follow trends too much. Trends fade but style stays.

Blogs to Follow- RP Interviews Ashley Guyatt from Los Angeles + San Diego

IMG_5095-240px

NAME: Ashley Guyatt
WEBSITE/BLOG: Polka Dots & Sailor Stripes – http://polkadotsandsailorstripes.com/
CITY + COUNTRY: Los Angeles + San Diego, United States

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BLOG?

I had a serious Pinterest & Fashion Blog addiction where I would just spend hours upon hours of looking at other blogs and outfit ideas. I realized that showcasing my favorite outfits on a blog was something I could also do myself, so I decided to go for it!

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BLOG NAME?

For a while I had a hard time buying anything that wasn’t striped or polka-dotted. I am always drawn to the two patterns, and I have even been known to wear them together. I decided that it was a good representation of how my style goes back and forth from girly to edgy, and from casual to fancy…depending how I feel that day. I never know what I am going to get when I go into my closet, and that is reflected on my blog. Each post is different from the last, and my style can never really be defined. Polka Dots & Sailor Stripes was something I felt sort of just summed up the two different sides of me!

WHAT MAKES YOUR BLOG STAND OUT?

My blog focuses heavily on budget-friendly outfits. I myself am on a very strict budget, and when it comes to shopping, there’s not much spending room in that budget! I have mastered the art of finding diamonds in the rough, and picking items that only look like they came with a heavy price-tag attached…but you will find by reading my blog, these gems are almost always $50 and under.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL/SIGNATURE STYLE?

My personal style changes every day, depending on the weather, my mood, my day’s activities, etc. I sort of just walk into my closet, stare at everything, and figure out what feels like “me” that day. My style ranges from extremely girly and kate spade obsessed, to ripped boyfriend jeans and booties when I want to just look “effortlessly thrown together” and borderline grungy. I am not sure why I can never stick to one style, but it seems to work! My clothes help me be whoever I want to be that day.

WHO IS YOUR #1 FASHION ICON?

I would have to say that in this point in time, it is Amber Fillerup from Barefoot Blonde. Not only does she have the best hair EVER, she throws together simple, timeless pieces, in the most effortless way. She’s also the reason my lipstick collection has increased drastically!

FAVORITE LOCAL DESIGNERS?

Oh goodness, this is a tough one! There are so many talented designers that I have come in contact with through my blog, and I am so thankful to know them all! I am probably the most smitten with a new jewelry designer that I just recently got connected with. Her jewelry pieces are so so delicate, and very unique. I find myself reaching for the bracelets and rings I have from her day after day. Her name is Diana Ho and her jewelry line, Diana Ho Designs, is currently sold on Etsy. It’s amazing.

FAVORITE WEBSITES?

I would say Pinterest is by far my favorite. I could get lost on that website all day! Another website I check daily is Barefoot Blonde because like I said in a previous question, Amber Fillerup is my #1 fashion icon at the moment! I also love love love Cara Loren’s blog. She is really good at looking effortlessly put together as well, and definitely has an edgier side that I love to channel on certain days!

FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET NOW?

I go through moments of hating my entire closet, so right now this is really hard to answer! I would have to say my white coat with fur on the bottom half. It’s not a piece that I get to wear very often, but it’s one of those pieces that I want to put on display because I think it’s just so darn pretty. I love it!

Ashley Guyatt - Fur Coat

FAVORITE BOOK, MOVIE + BAND?

My favorite book(s) at the moment are actually a series by G.J Walker-Smith. It’s such a silly little love story that follows an Australian girl and a Parisian-American guy from NYC, but I love to just unwind and get lost in it after a long day of working. I think it’s the hopeless romantic side of me that can’t get enough of it!

My favorite movie is and will always be ‘A Lot Like Love.’ Partly because I am obsessed with Ashton Kutcher, but mostly because I think it is such a good love story. I am a sucker for romance movies, and I love the way this movie shows that if it’s meant to be, it will be no matter where life takes you. It’s the best!
My favorite band, you’re going to laugh, is One Direction. No shame! I am obsessed with Harry Styles. Even if I am a couple years older than him, I don’t even care!! Haha…but really. They are my favorite. 😉

IF YOU WERE TO HAVE LUNCH WITH ANNA WINTOUR AND CARINE ROITFELD WHAT WOULD YOU WEAR?

Oh my goodness I don’t even know!!! I would have the most insane outfit-anxiety of all time planning for a lunch like that! I would probably stick with a flattering, bright dress from kate spade, with a cute eclectic coat over it, maybe leopard print or something fun! For shoes, I would definitely stick to a pair of mid-height heels (just so I don’t trip…I am extremely clumsy!). I think that it would be a sophisticated choice that is not only fool-proof, but also fashionable.

SONG YOU HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THE MOST/ON REPEAT?

I have been absolutely obsessed with Blank Space by Taylor Swift. So good, and so fun to sing at the top of your lungs in the car when you’re stuck in traffic!

ANY OTHER BLOGS YOU LOVE?

Atlantic-Pacific is definitely a favorite of mine; I get a lot of outfit inspiration from Blair Eadie and try to recreate her beautiful looks with more affordable options.

BIGGEST FASHION MISTAKE YOU EVER MADE?

Oh man…definitely when I bought a pair of kitten heel, sling-back, pointed toe shoes in black AND white. I thought they were the perfect shoe for everyday, and every outfit…and I definitely used them that way! They even had a little bow on both toes. So bad. So much regret. My only saving grace is that I was only 13, so I had a lot to learn.

3 FASHION TIPS?

1 – If you like it, BUY it.
2 – If someone else hates it, BUY it (unless it really is terrible). A lot of my favorite pieces have come from this philosophy; your style is different than anyone else’s, so don’t let them decide what you’re going to wear for you.
3 – If something is just a little too big or a little too small, pass on it. I have fallen into this trap so many times, where it is the last one, and I just have to have it. But you have to remember, it will never fit you well, and you will always wish it was different! In fact, I am wearing a pair of heels that are just a tad too big as I write this, and I regret it every time I wear them. Be patient and keep looking! If it’s not meant to be, don’t force it.

FAVORITE SNACK/ PICK ME UP?

That has to be a cheese & charcuterie plate, paired with a glass of red wine, and followed up with yummy dark chocolate. I think I could live off of this diet (I blame this on my time studying abroad in Italy).
