Futura @ Amsterdam Fashion Week July 2016

Amsterdam Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017: Futura: Runway + Backstage
Photographer : Giusy de Ceglia

Emerging fashion designer Dutch label FUTURA, designed by Anne Bosman, Sanne Schepers and head of business Tom Renema, presented their mens and womenswear collection during Amsterdam Fashion Week. The theme of this collection was about belonging and acceptance – the “FUTURA Community”.

The pieces are hand painted and embroidered with personal sketches placed onto Italian denim and in support of eco-friendly no waste left over fabrics from Auping.  Casual and fashion forward Jumpsuits, jackets, and backpacks all made it down the runway. The jumpsuits on both men and women were definite standout pieces.

WHEN DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE A DESIGNER?

As early  as the tender age of six. Fashion was already in my blood throughout various family members who were steamstresses while growing up in Jamaica in the early 70’s. Therefore the trend lives within me, and now i’m here living this dream as an International designer.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING A FASHION DESIGNER?

I love to see models on the catwalk wearing the designs and have heads turn/turning. It gives me unexplainable feelings to have accomplished taking something from a dream to reality.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE? AND YOUR BIGGEST DREAM?

My biggest challenge/dream was the struggle to have the money paid for the MBFWNY in Feb 2015, that challenge pushes me harder to chase the current dream I’m living.

WHO WOULD BE YOUR DREAM PERSON TO DRESS?

Tyson Beckford, Growing up in New York in the early 90’s and having seen him-Tyson as an Icon dominating {Ralph Lauren} collections on many billboards, gives me the urge to have him one day wearing my designs. Either on the catwalk or to a fashion event.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING AFTER YOUR FASHION SHOW TO CELEBRATE?

There isn’t anytime to celebrate. Once the fashion season in the Netherlands is over, then I work rapidly towards and be prepared for the next fashion seasons globally.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?

My inspiration came from established known designers such as: Versace, Moschino, Ted Lapidus, Nicole Miller & Donna Karen.

WHAT IS THE FIRST PIECE YOU EVER MADE AND HOW HAVE YOU GROWN AS A DESIGNER SINCE THEN?

The first piece I ever made was this design –  And it took me 3 hours to complete the suit. Afterwards it was shown on the runway at the AA show in Rotterdam. Seeing the countless publications from this design gave me the growth in the Netherlands and globally.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE TO ANY STARTING OUT DESIGNERS?

To all starting designers, NEVER give up! Nothing in life is easy or for free, so continue pushing, work harder, make a way when there isn’t a way and most of all believe in yourself.

HOW DO YOU STAY SANE AND CALM AMID GETTING READY FOR THE FASHION WEEK CRAZINESS?

LOL, I stay calm because I am already an experienced designer, I know exactly what I want and all I do is put everything in place and excute the plans.

WHAT IS NEXT?

My next mission in a fashion tour in the Unites State and starting with the NYFW 17th September, then the LA Fashion Week 5th-8th October.

English Version:
When Sadaks’ models lined up for the final walk to the song Yass Bish by Soulja Boy feat. Nicki Minaj, it became certain: baggy jeans, hoodie sweaters and golden necklaces belong to the past. As of now, we want to see all rappers and bad boys in Sadak’s reinterpretation of the “Szur”: a traditional robe from Serbia – homeland of Sadak Designer Sasa Kovacevic. For his prints Kovacevic combined ethnic and contemporary symbols to carry tradition into the now.

Rough men in tights and neatly tied footgear tattooed and with nicely dressed hair – Sadak’s collection celebrated contrast and was innovative and unique. “Pride in individuality” was Sadak’s message which he definitely brought onto Berlin’s fashion runway. Yass Bish!

Yass, Bish!

Han Kjøbenhavn @ Copenhagen Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015

The runway show for Han Kjøbenhavn started out with a milky white foam floating down the catwalk between leafless white trees and dead black animals. Models entered wearing white masks. It was impressive to see how the two designers behind the menswear label, Jannik Wikkelsøe Davidsen and Tim Faith Hancock, combined art and fashion in their show.

Han Kjøbenhavn’s collections always reflect the mind-set of the two designers and where they are at in the moment. This season their collection was inspired by changing weather and moving into colder months thata Danish Summer can offer which was also reflected in their choice of fabrics. A lot of technical fabrics were used to cope with the change of seasons, Windbreakers, bomber jackets, printed sweatshirts, shorts, running-tights and pantsuits were some of the dominant items in the collection. The colour scheme included black, white, petrol blue, army green and bordeaux.

Overall they presented an innovative, bold and aesthetically beautiful collection that is perfect for the modern man.
