Music Festival “Way Out West” Musician Amanda Bergman Talks Style and Fashion.

The Swedish Music Festival “Way Out West” held in Gothenburg equals Coachella for a place to scout fashion and style. Style Influencer Kristina Berg of Stockholm, Sweden had the chance to speak with musician Amanda Bergman.

She comes from a small town in the country, is the youngest of five siblings, and for most of her life has worn functional clothing. Amanda Bergman plays in one of today’s most hyped Swedish bands, Amason.

Read below as Amanda shares her sense of style and more.

1-Amanda Bergman 2 Kristina Berg

WHAT ARE YOU INSPIRED BY IN YOUR CLOTHING STYLE?

Since I grew up in the country, I’ve had lots of animals around me for most of my life. As a result, I’ve always had some form of cowboy romanticism as inspiration. The most important thing when I was growing up was to have functional clothes and to always remember to wear a good pair of jeans.

WHAT IS THE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING YOU USE THE MOST?

What I prefer to wear are suits. I’d really like to somehow represent the form of femininity. I’ve never been much for girly clothes, and I was 23 years old the first time I wore a dress. Same thing goes for shoes. I wore my first high heels a year ago. Usually I just wear boots.

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOUR MASCULINE SENSE OF STYLE COMES FROM?

Since I was the youngest of five sisters, I’ve always had this boy projection from my parents. I’ve had to represent the boy that they never had – much of it comes from that.

WHAT RANGE OF COLORS DO YOU SEE WHEN YOU LOOK IN YOUR CLOSET?

I’ve actually always loved color; my favorite color is wine red. Don’t know how long I’ve been looking for a wine red suit, but I’ve never been able to find one.

DO YOU WEAR LOTS OF COLOR DURING A STAGE PERFORMANCE, TOO?

The thing is, I usually block out those kinds of thoughts, to do something extra on stage. Right before our show today, we decided on what clothes we’d wear, but I just pick out what feels right. To me, it feels unhealthy to be too planned. There are lots of people who really express themselves on stage with their clothes, and I think that’s just fine, but I haven’t really gotten there, it’s mostly a thought that stresses me out.

DOES YOUR MUSIC GO HAND IN HAND WITH YOUR CLOTHING STYLE?
Since I’m so much on the inside of my own music, it’s hard to make a fair assessment of that. Obviously it’s my performance, and what I’m wearing is another expression of my personality. The thing I think about most is my role as a woman on stage. I think all women do amazing things, but what I want to represent is an alternative to the usual image of femininity. So it would be hard for me to go out on stage in sheer material, even if I might wear something like that in private. It might also have something to do with the fact that I play in a band with four men, where I’m the singer, which still makes me feel like a stereotype, even though I try to blend in.

I think that your way of expressing yourself is a process, and that all the time you’re learning how to relate to it and what you actually think. Later in life, I think I’ll have an even more conscious way of dressing.

WHERE DO YOU USUALLY BUY CLOTHING?

Ultimately, the most important thing for me is to buy what I like. Mostly, I buy secondhand. As far as brands go, I’ve had a long relationship with the brand Hope. One Swedish designer I really like a lot is Rodebjer, and their suits.

FINALLY,

AMANDA: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

A sense of humor and an attitude that lets me jump on the next motorcycle!

Fashion Blogger to Know – Piece, Love and Sole.

Brittany Wilson is the Fashion Force behind the blog Piece, Love and Sole which is about fashion, accessories and New York.

fashion-blogger-interview-piece-love-sole-2

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BLOG?

When I relocated to New York from the DC area a dear friend suggested that I start a blog to stay connected to fashion. It originally started as a blog about affordable accessories but then I noticed that I was experiencing so many fun things in New York that I wanted to share those too. So the purpose of the blog morphed from just accessories to fashion and New York.

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BLOG NAME?

It’s a different spin on the phrase “Peace, Love and Sole” Piece = as in a piece of clothing or a piece of me, Love = the blog is about things I love, Sole = Shoes…because who doesn’t love shoes.

WHAT MAKES YOUR BLOG STAND OUT?

I blog from my view and with my voice. That’s the best part about blogging, you can be an individual.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL/SIGNATURE STYLE?

I like to be comfortable and chic. If you aren’t comfy it shows…and that’s not cute. Dresses are the easiest thing to wear but I love a good graphic tee too. I like to play around with fashion. So one day I’m in boyfriend jeans, a tee and sneakers, the next I could be in a fitted dress and stilettos and then the next day I could be in leather pants and a blouse.

WHO IS YOUR #1 FASHION ICON?
Diane Von Furstenberg

FAVORITE LOCAL DESIGNERS?

A friend of mine has a clothing line Yunes Swathe, they’ve really grown into something beautiful. I don’t really have any favorites but I definitely love to explore. I think my favorites are usually unique designers that I come across in flea markets.

FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET NOW?

My printed sets. I love that you can wear them as one outfit or break the separates apart and make a completely new look

BIGGEST FASHION MISTAKE YOU EVER MADE?

Ugh, I’m sure there isn’t just one. Years ago I wore a blazer, button down shirt, jean skirt and flat moccasin boots to the club. I just can’t…

3 FASHION TIPS?

1) If it’s not comfortable before you leave the house, change.
2) If you have no idea what you want to wear, start with your shoes.
3) Lipstick fixes everything

WHAT IS THE STYLE OF THE CITY YOU LIVE IN AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR CITIES STYLE?

New York is such a fashion mecca but I also love that there are people that live here that aren’t caught up in fashion and do their own thing. To me, that’s the best type of style.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM JOB?

To organize celebrity closets.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

I worked in a dental office in high school

WHAT IS YOUR TYPICAL DAY LIKE?

During the week it’s fairly uneventful and I’m ok with that. Work and working out. I may host or attend an event during the evening once a week (with the other company I run with my business partner: Dolls of the City). But I spend a lot of time thinking about what’s next and writing that down in my notebook.

Fashion Blogger to Follow- Erica Stolman From San Diego

Screen Shot 2015-03-17 at 4.11.02 PM
NAME: Erica Stolman
WEBSITE/BLOG: Fashion Lus – http://www.fashionlush.com/
CITY + COUNTRY: San Diego, United States

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BLOG

I started blogging wayyyy back when 2008, when blogging first became a “thing”. I was in college working towards my degree in Fashion Merchandising & wanted an outlet to share all of my experiences and inspirations, so starting a blog just kinda made sense at that point in my life. At first, it was strictly a hobby as I needed to focus on my education, but once I graduated it took center stage of my life & has now grown into what it is today!

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BLOG NAME?

Love this question, cause honestly, I don’t think anyone knows!

You know how they call people who get all flirty when drinking a “lush”? Yea, well that’s basically how I get with fashion. Whenever I get a new pair of shoes I love or a bag I’ve been eyeing for a while, I literally get a little buzz off of the buy (aka shoppers high!).

WHAT MAKES YOUR BLOG STAND OUT?

I think the combination of fashion + DIY make my blog stand out. Typically you either find fashion bloggers or DIY bloggers, but rarely both!

DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL/SIGNATURE STYLE?

Minimalistic, comfortable, & a little bit 90’s inspired.

WHO IS YOUR #1 FASHION ICON?

Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen combined, always (there basically one person, right?). I know that’s so cliche of me, but I really don’t care, they are amazing in every way.

FAVORITE LOCAL DESIGNERS?

Honestly, when it comes to clothes there aren’t a lot of local designers I know much about here in San Diego. Jewelry though, I am all about JNB Style. The midi rings are my favorite :).

FAVORITE WEBSITES?

Nylon | Refinery 29 | StyleList | IFB | WWD

FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET NOW?

My Alexander Wang Prisma lunchbag purse.

It was seriously sold out everywhere and impossible to find, so I was pretty ecstatic when stumbled upon what I think was the last one on the entire internet!

FAVORITE BOOK, MOVIE + BAND?

Favorite book: Gone Girl (& all books by Gillian Flynn for that matter!)

Favorite movie: Currently: Boyhood | Of All Time: Factory Girl

Favorite band: Currently: HAIM | Of All Time: Fleetwood Mac

IF YOU WERE TO HAVE LUNCH WITH ANNA WINTOUR AND CARINE ROITFELD WHAT WOULD YOU WEAR?

Wow! That’s a hard question. I would probably wear my leather skinny pants, a crisp white v-neck with this pinstriped blazer I just got, & pointy toed ankle boots (preferably the ACNE Loma boots). Keep it simple, always.

SONG YOU HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THE MOST/ON REPEAT?

Divisionary (do the right thing) by Ages and Ages & Redneck Woman by Gretchen Wilson (don’t know why, but this song gets me pumped!).

FAVORITE E-COMMERCE SITES?

Missguided | Topshop | ASOS | Pixie Market

ANY OTHER BLOGS YOU LOVE?

The Skinny Confidential, Modern Legacy, & Sunday’s Pearl are my daily go-to’s.

BIGGEST FASHION MISTAKE YOU EVER MADE?

Following a trend that I didn’t even like in the first place! Obviously you’ve got to take chances, but don’t just follow trends because other people are. If you don’t like it, stick to your gut!

3 FASHION TIPS?

1. Stay true to yourself/your style
2. Splurge on good jeans (it really makes all the difference)
3. Don’t take it too seriously! Fashion is fun, so get weird with it.

FAVORITE SNACK/ PICK ME UP?

Ginger shots! I started drinking ginger shots in Copenhagen this past year & ever since I’ve been hooked. They give me a ton of energy, strengthens the immune system, aids in digestion, boost metabolism, & detoxifies. You can order them up at your local juice spot or you can make them yourself. Find my personal recipe here.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING A FASHION DESIGNER?

The best thing about fashion designing is that it’s a very creative profession and this never ceases to impress me!
I love my work so much that… I don’t feel like it’s working at all!

WHAT HAS BEEN YOU BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

The biggest challenge is to decide the path in which you want to walk through, and what is your aim, of course.
The most important thing of all is to know what direction you want to follow as a fashion designer. The dream! As soon as you have it clear in front of you, then it is possible to accomplish anything!

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?

Being among fabrics and colors, is my happy place. Seeing or touching new fabrics and various other materials like ribbons, buttons and other trims, is enough to trigger many different design ideas in my mind which I can’t wait to bring to life! Foreign cultures and travel also brings me so much inspiration, so I always wish to travel in several countries.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A DESIGNER?

Becoming a fashion designer was not a wish, it was a natural turn in my life.
My parents were both in the clothing industry, they owned two clothing shops. They were not designers themselves however. From my early age I had an inclination for painting and drawing, so my main studies were in Fine Arts. After I graduated my parents just gave me the idea to also study fashion design, and they did so good!! I am so grateful to them for this boost!
